According to the latest statistics, China's crude steel production of May 2004 continued upward trend set in the past month, with total production of 21,052,400 tons, up 13.3% from the same period of last year. The year to date (YDT) figure was set at 103,906,600 tons, up 22.7%.
Of the total production, finished steel products accounted for 22,812,600 tons, up 14%; YTD figures at 113,452,200 tons, up 24.3%. In the breakdown by items, rail products 192,700 tons, down 2% and YTD figures (1,009,700 tons) up 18.9%; wire rod totaled 3,650,800 tons, up 7.5% and YTD figures (18,839,600 tons) up 20.7%; medium and heavy plate totaled 1,404,500 tons, down 2.3% and YTD figures (7,521,800 tons) up 12.6%; seamless pipes totaled 746,400 tons, up 27.9% and YTD figures (3,549,700tons) up 28.3%; welded pipes totaled 983,200 tons, up 3.9% and YTD figures (4,305,900 tons) up 18.2%.
