According to the latest statistics, China's crude steel production of September 2003 continued upward trend set in the past month, with total production of 19.1738 million tons, up 26.11% from the same period of last year. The year to date (YDT) figure was set at 159.5851 million tons, up 21.64%.
Of the total production, finished steel products accounted for 20.4037 million tons, up 24.33%; YTD figures at 170.291 million tons, up 19.42%. In the breakdown by items, rail products 150900 tons, down 6.27% and YTD figures (1.4141 million tons) down 2.34%; wire rod totaled 3.5201 million tons, up 19.96% and YTD figures (29.4394 million tons) up 12.58%; medium and heavy plate totaled 2.8415 million tons, up 34.13% and YTD figures (23.7627 million tons) up 29.62%; sheet products totaled 2.0461 million tons, up 1.48% and YTD figures (17.7179 million tons) up 5.46%; seamless pipes totaled 586500 tons, up 21.76 and YTD figures (5.0953 million tons) up 10.4%; welded pipes totaled 885200 tons, up 35.15% and YTD figures (7.3148 million tons) up 23.86%.
