According to the latest statistics, China's crude steel production of June 2003 continued the upward trend set in the past months, with a total production of 18,416,600 tons, representing a 23.45% increase from the same period of last year. The Year-to-date (YTD) figure was set at 103,147,700 tons, up 21.01% from the same period of last year.
Of the total production, finished steel products accounted for 19,712,000 tons, up 19.82% from same period last year. YTD figures at 108,956,500 tons also show a 17.41% increase over the same period last year. In the breakdown by items, rail products 176,300 tons, up 7.96% and YTD figures (910,600 tons) down 4.8%; wire rods totaled 3,425,800 tons, up 12.74% and YTD figures (18,858,000 tons) up 9.81%; medium & heavy plates totaled 2,797,200 tons, up 39.65% and YTD figures (15,060,100 tons) up 24.62%; sheet products totaled 1,845,200 tons, down 1.11% and YTD figures (11,639,200 tons) up 6.55%; strip totaled 149,400 tons, down 3.68% and YTD figures (913,200) up 5.01%; seamless pipes totaled 609,700 tons, up 6% and YTD figures (3,304,300 tons) up 6.3%; welded pipes totaled 890,500 tons, up 18.12% and YTD figures (3,712,400 tons) up 23.89%.
