According to the latest statistics, China¨s crude
steel production of September 2006 stood at 36,161,800 tons, up 18.5% from
the same period of last year. The year to date (YDT) figure was set at
308,437,800 tons, up 18.4%; that of pig iron totaled 34,974,400 tons, up
20.5% and YTD figures totaled 297,457,700 tons, up 20.8%; that of finished
steel totaled 40,076,400 tons, up 23% and YTD figures totaled 339,034,900
tons, up 23.7%; that of coking coal totaled 24,296,300 tons, up 22.7%, YTD
figures totaled 201,358,100 tons, up 16.7%; that of ferrous alloy totaled
1,345,500 tons, up 37.3% and YTD figures totaled 9,949,300 tons, up 32.7%.
In the breakdown by items, rail products 312,200 tons, up 12% and YTD
figures (2,427,700 tons) up 6.2%; rod totaled 3,048,400 tons, up 20.5% and
YTD figures (27,388,900 tons) up 25.6%; rebar totaled 6,949,400 tons, up
10.6% and YTD figures (61,304,700 tons) up 18.3%; wire rod totaled 6,188,100
tons, up 22.7% and YTD figures (52,575,900 tons) up 19.7%; heavy plate
totaled 1,166,500tons, up 17.4% and YTD figures (9,506,700 tons) up 20.4%;
hot rolled sheet totaled 549,700 tons, up 110.8% and YTD figures (3,822,600
tons) up 62.1%; cold rolled sheet totaled 1,197,500 tons, up 55.1% and YTD
figures (9,210,000 tons) up 54.8%; galvanized sheet (strip) totaled
1,169,800 tons, up 47.9% and YTD figures (9,379,600 tons) up 45.7%; coating
sheet (strip) totaled 206,100 tons, up 22.6% and YTD figures (1,680,300
tons) up 24.4%; electric steel (strip) totaled 280,100 tons, up 15.9% and
YTD figures (2,443,000 tons) up 29.8%; seamless pipes totaled 1,224,600tons,
up 20% and YTD figures (10,794,600 tons) up 30%; welded pipes totaled
1,985,200 tons, up 22.4% and YTD figures (15,501,700 tons) up 24.8%.
