According to the latest statistics,
China’s crude steel production of June 2002 continued the upward trend set
in the past months, with a total production of 14,858,500 tons, representing
a 1.74% decrease over May 2002. The Year-to-date (YTD) figure was set at
85,030,900 tons, up 21.46% from the same period of last year.
Of the total
production, finished steel products accounted for 16,439,000 tons, up 17.84%
from same period last year. YTD figures at 91,920,700 tons also show a
19.78% increase over the same period last year. In the breakdown by items,
rail products 164,800 tons, up 3.78% and YTD figures (956,000 tons) up
27.42%; wire rods totaled 2,979,200 tons, up 40.31% and YTD figures
(17,084,700 tons) up 20.07%; medium & heavy plates totaled 2,003,600
tons, up 32.5% and YTD figures (12,085,400 tons) up 19.64%; sheet products
totaled 1,862,600 tons, up 22.37% and YTD figures (10,890,300 tons) up
11.44%; strip products totaled 1,172,400 tons, up 24.75% and YTD figures
(6,136,400 tons) up 22.13%; seamless pipes totaled 577,200 tons, up 12.89%
and YTD figures (3,043,200 tons) up 22.14%; welded pipes totaled 609,200
tons, up 4.69% and YTD figures (3,008,500 tons) up 10.21%.
