According to the latest statistics, China's crude steel production of December 2003 continued upward trend set in the past month, with total production of 20,158,000 tons, up 28.71% from the same period of last year. The year to date (YDT) figure was set at 220,115,300 tons, up 9.7%.
Of the total production, finished steel products accounted for 21,756,400 tons, up 19.79%; YTD figures at 235,815,800 tons, up 21.53%. In the breakdown by items, rail products 135,100 tons, down 3.02% and YTD figures (1,839,200 tons) down 1.12%; wire rod totaled 3,742,900 tons, up 13.71% and YTD figures (4,032,440 tons) up 12.93%; medium and heavy plate totaled 3,029,200 tons, up 40.78% and YTD figures (32,796,100 tons) up 33.23%; sheet products totaled 2,152,700 tons, up 16.81% and YTD figures (23,962,100 tons) up 7.09%; seamless pipes totaled 654,600 tons, up 30.71 and YTD figures (6,999,000 tons) up 14.74%; welded pipes totaled 1,067,700 tons, up 14.94% and YTD figures (10,699,700 tons) up 28.82%.
