According to the latest statistics, China's crude steel production of August 2002 continued the upward trend set in the past months, with a total production of 15,394,400 tons, representing a 25.38% increase from the same period of last year. The Year-to-date (YTD) figure was set at 115,621,500 tons, up 22.17% from the same period of last year.
Of the total production, finished steel products accounted for 16,491,700 tons, up 22.06% from same period last year. YTD figures at 103,737,300 tons also show a 19.64% increase over the same period last year. In the breakdown by items, rail products 161,900 tons, up 2.27% and YTD figures (1,291,700 tons) up 19.79%; wire rods totaled 3,059,600 tons, up 21.60% and YTD figures (23,149,600 tons) up 20.04%; medium & heavy plates totaled 2,156,500 tons, up 27.88% and YTD figures (14,733,600 tons) up 12.03%; sheet products totaled 1,938,300 tons, up 13.82% and YTD figures (14,733,600 tons) up 12.03%; strip products totaled 1,264,500 tons, up 32.34% and YTD figures (8,524,800 tons) up 23.66%; seamless pipes totaled 506,900 tons, up 16.69% and YTD figures (4,046,800 tons) up 20.65%; welded pipes totaled 556,500 tons, up 55.3% and YTD figures (1,211,900 tons) up 30.78%.
